Keiser University is a career training college that prepares students for entry-level employment in the fields of health care, business, biotechnology, information technology, culinary arts, education, and criminal justice. Keiser currently has 16 campus locations throughout the state of Florida as well as online. Founded in 1977, Keiser is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The main campus is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Keiser currently serves approximately 11,000 students both on campus and via the Internet.
Keiser College offers several degree options at all levels of post-secondary education. The associate of science in fashion design and merchandising prepares students for several entry-level positions in the apparel industry. Students are taught the fundamental techniques of fashion design and merchandising through several hands-on learning projects. The program is a total of 84 credits including 24 general education credits and 60 major core credits. Core classes include Fundamentals of Apparel Construction, Textiles, Fashion History, Technical Drawing for Fashion, Fashion Illustration, Apparel Patternmaking, Construction Sewing Technique, Apparel Design Collections, Apparel Pattern Details, Apparel Product Development, Computer-Aided Fashion Design, Fashion Retailing, Fashion Promotion, and Fashion Portfolio and Presentation.
At the conclusion of the program students will have a complete portfolio that can be used for employment purposes. The associate of science degree in fashion design and merchandising is a terminal degree and generally does not transfer. The degree is designed to provide career training that leads to a position within the fashion industry.
