International Academy of Design and Technology is a specialized career-focused college that has been serving students since 1977. The school was founded by Clem Stein Jr. and went by the name International Academy of Merchandising. The school's main campus is located in Tampa, Florida and has several other locations throughout the United States. International Academy of Design and Technology currently has campus locations in the major cities of Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas, Nashville, Orlando, Sacramento, San Antonio, Schaumburg, Seattle, and Tampa. There is also an online division that began operation in 2007. Each campus is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. The academy is authorized to grant associate’s degrees, bachelor's degrees, and certificates.
Currently the institution offers degrees in fashion design, interior design, graphic design, animation, professional photography, audio production, fashion merchandising, advertising design, and game production. Each program is designed with a career-focused curriculum, which means instructors focus on teaching students the skills they need to obtain entry-level positions in the field that they are studying. Most of the information and skills learned are done through hands-on exercises, group activities, and portfolio building. Students are able to take classes on a part-time or full-time basis depending on their outside schedules. Classes are arranged in a convenient manner where students can attend during different parts of the day. Students can even take a full load of courses by attending just two days per week.
All of the fashion and design programs are taught by certified teachers with industry experience. Students learn the skills relevant to today's fashion industry and are able to use state of the art equipment and software. Depending on the degree chosen, students will focus on the creative side of fashion and design or the business side. Some programs integrate both giving the student a well-rounded understanding of the apparel industry. Skills taught include marketing and sales promotions, sewing, fashion drawing, fashion computer design, supply chain management, inventory control, fashion trend forecasting, and fashion show planning.
